Murdered Gods (audiobook) by Marina Finlayson

Murdered Gods (Shadows of the Immortals, #2)Book Description:
Lexi didn’t set out to steal a god’s ring, but when a magic artifact starts trying to talk to you, what’s a girl supposed to do? She’s always had the ability to talk to animals, but this new development amps up the crazy. Now she’s afraid her power is out of control and she’s losing her mind.

The only person who could possibly reassure her that she’s not going mad is her mother, who has always refused to discuss the source of Lexi’s strange ability. Now that the jewellery is getting chatty, maybe she’ll finally spill the beans.

Unfortunately, going home means a trip back to the human territories, and Lexi only just made it out of there alive last time. She’s hoping for a quick visit, but with a god hellbent on retrieving the ring and a fireshaper she might have accidentally betrayed on her tail, life is about to get horribly complicated—for her and everyone she cares about.

My Thoughts:
This was a wild ride.  Lexi has decided that maybe not ALL shapers are as bad as she thought.  That being said, when you take a ring that was in the possession of one and he was just starting to trust you, well that doesn't really help build his trust.  Seeking answers brings her more questions than answers.
Is she a member of this new group she met and just forgot?  Are they who she hopes they are or who Jake says they are?  Confusion and hope tangle in her.  Nothing from her past is as she remembers.  Her new friends may not be friends at all and Jake may never trust her again.
It was a 4/5 for me.  I am truly enjoying these books.

Dangerous Illusions by Irene Hannon

Dangerous Illusions (Code of Honor #1)Book Description:
Trish Bailey is on overload trying to deal with a demanding job, an ailing mother, and a healing heart. When a series of unsettling memory lapses leads to a tragic death--and puts Trish under police scrutiny--her world is once again thrown into turmoil.

Detective Colin Flynn isn't certain what to think of the facts he uncovers during his investigation. Did Trish simply make a terrible mistake or is there more to the case than meets the eye? As he searches for answers, disturbing information begins to emerge--and if the forces at work are as evil as he suspects, the situation isn't just dangerous . . . it's deadly.

Bestselling and award-winning author Irene Hannon captures readers with a mind-bending story that will have them doubling back to retrace their steps--and figure out what they missed!

My Thoughts:
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed Mrs. Hannon's book.  This one has suspense, mystery, romance, and action.  I like the different points of view.  The bad guy is really bad.  I thought the author did a great job of taking us down the path and I wasn't certain at any point who the bad guy was.
I really liked Trish.  My heart broke for her with what she was going through.  Colin was a good guy.  I would not be able to handle the job he has (or that Trish had for that matter).  This book has strong characters and a story that makes you not want to put the book down!It was a 4/5 for me.  I cannot wait to read the next in this series.

Cowboy Christmas Guardian by Dana Mentink

About the Book:

image1Name of book: Cowboy Christmas Guardian
Author: Dana Mentink
Genre: Isnpy Romance Suspense
Someone is dead set on stopping Shelby Arroyo from doing her job: assessing mineral rights in a mine in gold country. But after rancher Barrett Thorn rescues her from an attack, the handsome widowed cowboy seems to feel responsible for her. That is, until he discovers she’s from the family that he’ll never forgive for his wife’s death. As the threats against Shelby escalate, cowboy honor and an unexpected attraction keep Barrett by her side, even at his own risk. And since Shelby won’t back down, Barrett must protect the brave, loyal woman he has no business falling for…a woman someone wants to kill by Christmas.
My Thoughts:
This was a good one.  Shelby is a strong determined lady who has a knack for getting herself into trouble.  Barrett is a hurting, strong cowboy who can't resist helping a lady in need.  The family issues are a barrier for their relationship and Barrett's grief as well.  I loved how close he and his family were.  They aren't perfect any of them, but they would do absolutely anything for each other and that, to me, is what family is.
I figured out a big part of the mystery before it was revealed but that didn't stop me from enjoying the story.  There was still the anticipation of the characters finding out!  I do want to read more about Barrett's family.  His mother seems like a lady I would love to hang out with and get some cooking lessons from!
It was a 5/5 for me.  I just love a good story!

Guest Post from Dana Mentink

Howdy, readers! I am thrilled to be bringing you this four book Gold Country Cowboys series that takes place in an area near and dear to my heart! My family and I have enjoyed many adventures in this amazing area, from exploring gold mines, to climbing through caverns, and soaking in the incredible history. As a matter of fact, we recently enjoyed a train trip on the historic V and T Railroad which took us past abandoned mines and even some active ones where people are engaged in modern day treasure hunting. California’s Gold Country is a fascinating place filled with secret treasures. I hope you will enjoy some wild adventures with four cowboy brothers who have some secrets of their own. God bless you all!

Christmas in Icicle Falls by Sheila Roberts

Christmas in Icicle Falls (Life in Icicle Falls #11)Book Description:
Join USA TODAY bestselling author Sheila Roberts this Christmas as she returns for the final installment in her treasured Icicle Falls series When Muriel Sterling released her new book, A Guide to Happy Holidays, she felt like the queen of Christmas. She's thrilled when the new tree she ordered online arrives and is eager to show it off--until she gets it out of the box and realizes it's a mangy dud. But rather than give up on the ugly tree, Muriel decides to make a project out of it. As she pretties up her tree, she realizes there's a lesson to be learned: everything and everyone has potential. Maybe even her old friend Arnie, who's loved her for years. Except, she's not the only one seeing Arnie's potential... Meanwhile, Muriel's ugly-tree project has also inspired her friends. Sienna Moreno is trying to bring out the best in the grouchy man next door, who hates noise, hates kids and hates his new neighbors. And while Olivia Claussen would love to send her obnoxious new daughter-in-law packing, she's adjusting her attitude and trying to discover what her son sees in the girl. If these women can learn to see the beauty in the "ugly trees" in their lives, perhaps this might turn out to be the happiest holiday yet.

My Thoughts:
This is the last book in the series and I know I've read at least 1-2 others, that being said, you can read this one on it's own and really enjoy it.  I really liked all the characters throughout the book, even the grouchy neighbor!  There is a lesson to be learned by the book, and understanding, forgiveness, differences, family.  This book is packed with holiday spirit and real people.
I know these characters aren't really real, but they are flawed, quirky people that I think I would enjoy knowing in reality.  Sienna's love for her son and moving to help him and her to have a new start, but then having the grouchy man next door.  The author and her beau, there are just so many little stories mixed in to the overall story that you will enjoy everyone.
It was a 4/5 for me.  I plan to go back and read the series in order so I can catch all the little interactions that you miss not having read the series!
