The Spider by Jennifer Estep

The Spider (Elemental Assassin, #10)Book Description:

The tenth book in the bestselling and “outstanding” (Romantic Times) Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series finally reveals for the first time the origins of Gin Blanco’s career as the deadliest of assassins.

For the first time, the origins of Gin Blanco’s career as the deadly assassin “the Spider” are revealed in full. In a story that pre-dates the other nine books in the series, Gin Blanco goes through her paces to become the most feared assassin in the Ashland.

My Thoughts:
I absolutely love this series.  Gin is back again.  This time it is a story from the past.  Dark blue roses arrive for her while she is at work and she tells Owen the story behind them.  We learn some of how Gin started out and some of the tortures she went through to become the deadly assassin The Spider.
I wasn't sure that I would like a 'back story', but I loved it.  Meeting a younger, less jaded Gin was great.  Granted she was still jaded but less 'knowledgeable' about most everything.  Fin was there and so was Fletcher.  Reading about him was awesome...how he trained Gin and treated her like a daughter.  Really there wasn't anything about the story I didn't like.  The 'bad guy' wasn't a shock but then it wasn't supposed to be to us, only to her!  Still there was plenty of the action we love from Gin though less of the elemental magic.
I rate this a 5/5.  It answered some questions for me and I loved having Fletcher there if only for a little while.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via netgalley).  I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
